Hello, Seashore families!  My name is Genger (Gen) Holt, and I am the proud new Director of Seashore Learning Center.  I look forward to meeting all of you soon, and thank you in advance for allowing me to participate in your child’s education.

Although I have been an educator for 21 years, my career in education actually began when I was in the 5th grade in Dallas, Texas.  Yes, I was THAT kid.  The one who was constantly pestering the teacher to let me grade papers, clean the chalkboard (back in ancient times!), and any other “teacher-y” thing I could think of to ask.  In desperation, my teacher arranged for me to go help in a first grade classroom when I was finished with my work.  I was hooked!

I began teaching in the Dallas area, and then taught for a year in Australia after being chosen for an International Teaching Fellowship.  In 2000, I moved to Corpus Christi and joined CCISD, where I taught grade levels 1st thru 5th and 8th.  After earning my master’s degree in Educational Administration, I entered the administration arena as an Instructional Teacher Advisor at W.B. Ray High School.  I moved to Taos, New Mexico, for the 2014-15 school year in order to help my father.  During this time, I was fortunate enough to be a part of establishing a new 6th grade level at Anansi Charter School.  My dad is doing really well now, and I am very happy to be back home on the island with my oldest son and his family.  I also have another son in the Dallas area, two great daughter-in-laws, and of course my fantastic grandkids!

One thing still hasn’t changed for me…I have to have a really good reason to go OTB!  Once an islander, always an islander!

I look forwarding to meeting all of my new Seashore families.  Please feel free to stop by the office to introduce yourself or you can contact me at 949-1222, Ext. 237 or at gholt@seashore.esc2.net.

See you soon!

Gen

Mission

The mission of SLC is to provide an educational facility dedicated to developing self-esteem, confidence, and social skills, while providing a foundation for a child's high level of academic achievement.

About Us

Seashore Learning Center is an open-enrollment, public charter school serving grades K-4.  We provide multi-age classes for students living in Padre Island, Flour Bluff, Port Aransas, the Naval Air Station, and National Seashore.

Because SLC is a school of choice, parents and students considering this school should be committed to regular attendance and consistently turning in homework and completing assignments.  In order for your students to be successful, this must be a goal shared by all.  Please consider this school wide philosophy as you make your choice.

Location

Seashore Learning Center is located on North Padre Island, Corpus Christi, Texas.  Our campus is just a "stone's throw away" from the Gulf of Mexico. This makes Seashore an ideal campus for learning about marine and environmental science. Students can often be found combing the beaches of Padre Island for marine specimens and information to support in-class assignments. What a wonderful and ideal learning environment!

Nondiscrimination Statement

Seashore Learning Center will not discriminate in admissions based on gender, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic, artistic, or athletic ability, or the district the child would otherwise attend.
