2014-15 is going to be a year of exciting changes at SLC, so in that spirit our theme for the year is Hope, Optimism, Determination!

Please take note of these major new developments for the coming school year, and review the Power Point, 2014-15 Student/Parent Handbook, and Code of Conduct.

Departmentalization at Modules II (1st and 2nd grade) and Module III (3rd and 4th grade.)  Students will rotate between three teachers, one who teaches only English Language Arts, one Math, and one Science and Social Studies.  We believe this will allow our teachers to better focus on meeting increasingly high academic standards while maintaining our multi-age and cooperative learning philosophies.  Kindergarten students will continue to remain with one teacher all day.

3:00 dismissal time.  Adding an extra 30 minutes to our school day will allow for transition time between teachers, while preserving time for recess and snack break.

Reducing exposure to outside food by discontinuing Friday lunch and parents providing food to children other than their own.  With increasing concerns about food allergies, dietary preferences, and overall promotion of healthy food choices we feel it is best to leave food decisions entirely in the hands of each family.  If we have school or Module events where food is part of the program, parents will be given ample notice in order to check food labels and make alternative plans as appropriate.  We are happy to help celebrate your child’s special occasions with non-food based activities, such as sharing childhood photos, reading a special story, or completing a birthday themed craft activity.  If you need additional ideas, we are happy to help you find a creative way to share special events.

Dress Code.  Layers in cool weather need to be solid red, white or blue only, so please plan your shopping accordingly.  Hair styles may not be distracting to the classroom environment (mohawks, spikes, shaved patterns, unusual hair colors) so be creative this summer with your look, and then prepare to tone it down once school begins.

We will be sharing more information with you on school supply drop off and meet the teacher opportunities in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I hope you are having a wonderful summer, and look forward to seeing our new and returning students the first day of school on August 18th!

The mission of SLC is to provide an educational facility dedicated to developing self-esteem, confidence, and social skills, while providing a foundation for a child's high level of academic achievement.

About Us

Seashore Learning Center is an open-enrollment, public charter school serving grades K-4.  We provide multi-age classes for students living in Padre Island, Flour Bluff, Port Aransas, the Naval Air Station, and National Seashore.

Because SLC is a school of choice, parents and students considering this school should be committed to regular attendance and consistently turning in homework and completing assignments.  In order for your students to be successful, this must be a goal shared by all.  Please consider this school wide philosophy as you make your choice.

Seashore Learning Center is located on North Padre Island, Corpus Christi, Texas.  Our campus is just a "stone's throw away" from the Gulf of Mexico. This makes Seashore an ideal campus for learning about marine and environmental science. Students can often be found combing the beaches of Padre Island for marine specimens and information to support in-class assignments. What a wonderful and ideal learning environment!

Nondiscrimination Statement

Seashore Learning Center will not discriminate in admissions based on gender, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic, artistic, or athletic ability, or the district the child would otherwise attend.
